Sterling shines in front of international audiences
12 May 2009

The past month has seen South Africa’s instrumental supergroup STERLING EQ perform to a global audience, on foreign soil, and with international legends!  First the four-piece rocked Newlands Cricket Stadium on 18 and 19 April during the IPL Cricket Tournament's opening matches, where they performed live to a 20,000 pax crowd each day and to billions across the globe via sattelite!  Then on the 28th they were off to Dubai, where they performed for a VIP Dunhill event in the trendy Sho Cho's Club.  They had to nip back to Cape Town for 3 performances in 2 days on home soil, and on the 5th of May they were back in Dubai to perform at the Middle Eastern World Travel Awards.  This event, of which the African leg took place on 11 May in Durban, with Sterling once again providing entertainment, is known as the Oscars of the Travel Industry and Sterling's involvement was extremely well-received and widely publicized.  A highlight for Sterling (and their audience!) was being on stage with the iconic group Boney M - the girls performed the hit track Rasputin with the legendary Maizie Williams and her band as a grand finale to the glitzy event.

Sterling launched its sizzling debut album at Wembley Square on 27th March. Produced by Gabi Le Roux with 2 bonus tracks by London-based producer Helmut Meijer, Sterling’s first CD (of which 150 copies were sold at the launch alone!) is set to become hot property for the group’s fast growing fan base.

The debut album, called “Nova”, showcases 4 innovative original works by Gabi le Roux as well as a striking arrangement of Mandoza’s greatest hit and South African favourite, Nkalakatha.  Sterling’s first record also includes arrangements of Classical works such as Bach’s Toccata in D, Entrance of the Queen of Sheba, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Czardas etc.  Visit SOUND for more information and to sample some of the brand new tracks!
