Sterling EQ releases spectacular Live DVD

SA’s instrumental supergroup, STERLING EQ’s long-awaited live DVD hits the shelves this Autumn.  Sterling EQ – Live in Concert was recorded on 13 Feb 2010 in front of a capacity (1200 strong) audience at Cape Town’s Artscape Opera House; a concert which undoubtedly cemented Sterling’s reputation as one of the most successful instrumental groups South Africa has ever produced. 

Sterling EQ – Live in Concert is made up of songs from Sterling EQ’s debut album, including hits like Nkalakatha and Nova, and originals like Electric Storm and Bach’s Kittens at Play.  Other highlights include legendary instrumentals for a colourful trip down memory lane, like the theme from Caravans and Chic Corea’s Spain, as well as a knock out instrumental version of the iconic Italian song Caruso; exciting contemporary versions of well-known Classics like Toccata & Fugue, and Storm (Four Seasons / Carmina Burana medley); and a few very fresh surprises!  Emo Adams also makes a brief appearance on this groundbreaking DVD, of which the second print run is already underway. 

Offering the viewer a 90 minute-long spectacular is a celebration of musical splendor and virtuosity, PLUS loads of extra features including music videos, Behind the Scenes inserts, interviews and a Gallery; Sterling EQ - Live in Concert is a release which the South African music industry can be proud of!

“Instrumental supergroup”

Sterling had a bumper 2009 and 2010 so far, and has undoubtedly lived up to the media’s description of them being SA’s “Instrumental supergroup”; highlights included:

* The release of their acclaimed music video “Nova – The Movie” in December 2009.  Based on the title track of Sterling’s debut album, “Nova”, and directed by SAMA-Award winning director Lara Hollis and supported by a 30-piece specialist film crew, this Tour-de-Force of a music video required a total of  35 costume changes (including some amazing Gavin Rajah outfits) and no less than 30 "locations", spanning over 50 years of cinema. 
* Performing for Elton John, Annie Lennox, Lance Armstrong, and other celebrities
* 5 International performances (including Dubai and the Seychelles)
* All Access (MNet magazine program) chose Nova as their theme song
* Sterling secured sponsorships with Samson (high tech wireless systems) and Kobus Dippenaar (designer)
* Many high profile Performances across SA (including IPL Opening matches, opening of Cape Town stadium, International AIDS Day concert at Artscape, etc), many of which included comprehensive live worldwide broadcasts
* International on-stage collaborations with disco legend Boney M, and locally with artists like Loyiso and the Bala Brothers, Wendy Oldfield and Anna Davel.

The members’ undeniable talent and energy, and their interesting backgrounds (the band includes a record holding marathon swimmer in Carina Bruwer, and a qualified actress in Ariella Caira!) continues to fascinate and charm the public.  There is little doubt that the Live DVD release will further build on their popularity and the groundbreaking contribution to this genre-defying instrumental style.
